Sherrie McGraw, renowned author of The Language of Drawing, will conduct a drawing-only workshop this spring. McGraw is a highly sought-after instructor in the most basic knowledge needed to develop into a good draftsman. Class demonstrations and individual instruction will guide students through the knowledge that constitutes “knowing how to draw.”
Throughout history, the classic nude has ushered artists into a different way of understanding the world through the language of line. Once students begin to “see,” the world transforms into a rich source of structure, symmetry, planes and dimension. Students will explore gesture drawing as the distillation of a model’s action and they will also discover the joy of capturing reality with a minimum of line. As well, longer poses will allow for a more in-depth study of the human form, which in turn will accelerate the editing process in good draftsmanship.
All skill levels are welcome but students will benefit most from the class if they familiarize themselves with McGraw’s book prior to the workshop.
